there is a battle..however subtle
which rages within each of us..
battle lines are drawn by frustration
over failure to find more than temporary
peace..in the seeming reality of this world..

disappointment claims to be the reward
for skirmishes fairly engaged and won..
it is reported  that our disappointment
is a spy which observes our maneuvers
and watches for opportunities to whisper:

your strategies are futile..
when the spy suggests surrender as
the only workable plan..we resist and
return to our tents..to refresh and reset
our aims.. promising conquest ahead..

but the spy  also persists with her
ready advice..as victories and losses
do not end in declarations of peace..
it seems the world awaits our attention
to the soft whisper of the spy...
