heavy may rains

seeped and spread

those potholes now pocking

streets we all tread..

estimates reach far

for final soothing 

of these daily jolts..

perhaps a message

from these

many jagged holes

forcing contemplation

of fossil fuel tolls...

this former boundary

But now these elderly posts

seem quaint with beauty

beauty acknowledging

separation as 

temporary thought...

Mr. Bowman

was an office manager of Western Union

in small town Colorado..

I as delivery boy with my new bicycle

mobility and freedom limited this day..

Saturday earnings replaced Saturday play..

I found time as burden as time can be

time between telegrams oppressed

as I found suffering of separate self..

Mr. Bowman reinforced the illusion

of which I speak..

So let me say: may he rest in the peace

which we both were seeking 

in those now remembered

time passages of youth...

Meet Artist Marina Abramovic a former Yugoslav artist now based in New York, who started her performance art career in the early 70s. Her work mainly focuses on the relationship between the audience and the performer. She explores the infinite possibilities of the mind and the limits of the human body.

In this performance she spends one minute sitting and looking at a total stranger.  Lots of people showed up, but when this one man sat down, her response gave me chills and goosebumps.  The man who sat across from her at 1:30 is Ulay her former lover.  They broke up over 30 years ago and haven’t seen each other until this exact moment.  She was so shocked by this surprise that she is hardly able to complete the minute.

Her reaction is so powerful that it brought me to tears.  This is such a touching and beautiful moment.

Computers that truly understand language

New Google hire and accomplished inventor Ray Kurzweil recently described his ambitious current project at the search giant.

Kurzweil is hoping to leverage Google’s massive pool of resources and data to develop technology that would create truly intelligent computers that can understand human language on a deep level.

The technology could be used to create hyper-intelligent search engines that answer questions before you even ask them.

His project at Google is focused on getting computers to understand natural language. Computers are unable to determine the meanings behind the words, phrases and sentences that they parse through by the billions on the internet, Kurzweil explained, but he’s is looking to change that with Google.

“It will know at a semantically deep level what you’re interest in. Not just the topic,” he said. “It will know the specific questions and concerns you have. It will be constantly surveying new knowledge and bringing things to your attention it thinks you want.”

He said that technology will answer our questions before we even ask them, and that this function would likely be integrated into the core technology of our devices and computers. [...]
