the year's ending day

our news is filled 

 documenting highlights
of diversity.. 

 Another year approaching

 its end..

Then from a friend

comes the photo above

and a question that leaps:

whether this image is

sunbreak or sunset..

Perhaps

we should demand 

at least for a while

to know only
this miraculous photo

images..yes.. Both..

Now returning to

what's in the news 

portraying each year

the sharp knife

of time

splitting and separating

in seeming truth..

Yet knowing now that

a most timely photo

points to our longing

to something 
we all seek...

Abidance

is our home place..

 we need to know

this place is

 not a place 

it is the still

before and during

 and after the storm..

the storm then stands

but does not know

its winds and furies

are really made of

our Abidance in

the still...

Sonnet 29

When in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes

I all alone beweep my outcast state,

And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,

And look upon myself, and curse my fate,

Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,

Featured like him, like him with friends possessed,

Desiring this man's art, and that man's scope,

With what I most enjoy contented least;

Yet in these thoughts my self almost despising,

Haply I think on thee, and then my state,

Like to the lark at break of day arising

From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven's gate;

   For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings

   That then I scorn to change my state with kings.

alas lies in waiting..

Religion does not reach to

Self for the understanding

to bring the experience

of Identity to

hungry adherents..

Identity for most

starts with inquiry

recognizing the seeming

separations of life..

Questions of how to find

happiness

peace

truth

grow increasingly urgent..

Religions have glimpses

in scriptural crevices

but the gleaning 

is often discouraged..

Beliefs are accorded

 the only means

of fulfillment 

but this heady path adds

 questions and more hunger..

Leading to repeatings

of a simple question

Who am I...?
